New Design and Better User Experience: Relaunch of the Bilfinger Connected Asset Performance Platform (BCAP)

The cloud-based platform BCAP (Bilfinger Connected Asset Performance) has been relaunched to improve the overall workability and user experience. The goals were to provide end users with faster and more intuitive access to the relevant information and to enable Customer Success Managers with high flexibility in defining user groups, connecting different solutions and combining information and visualizations originating from different applications.

BCAP is a platform that integrates different data sources from engineering, production and maintenance and provides a digital infrastructure and applications needed for improvement of operation, maintenance and product quality. BCAP clients benefit from overall cost reduction in their production and processes.

 

As the required functionalities, partner solutions and number of different users and roles on the platform have grown, a comprehensive user experience evaluation and improvement of content management became vital. For this relaunch, three areas of improvement were key: First, it is important to provide the most relevant information and solutions to the diverse users of BCAP, as easy as possible. As a result, a role-based approach was developed. The new BCAP user interface can now provide every role from operators to top-level management with the information and solutions relevant to that specific user group.

Second, it is also important to have easy and fast access to the information. For this, customized workspaces can be created to give a quick overview of the most frequently needed information, which may come from different data sources and applications.

Third, now that the platform has evolved to a mature scalable product, solution providers and customersSuccess managers needed more flexibility and self-service capabilities in defining roles, connecting different types of applications and creation of customized workspaces. For this reason, a unique content management system has been developed to allow  flexible connections and customizations.

Internal Bilfinger subject matter experts such as maintenance and customer success managers and external customers such as higher management, plant managers, production managers, reliability / quality / maintenance managers or operators work on the platform and will profit from the makeover. To meet the users’ expectations and to ensure a transparent and fast data-driven decision making for the customer, a user centric approach has been applied. This user centric approach was characterized by a first analysis phase with defined personas and in depth interviews. After designing the solution, the new user interface was again evaluated and adapted. Finally, the new version is now implemented and available to all customers and users on BCAP.

Besides further developments of BCAP with new features and functionalities, an easy and cost effective integration of new and third party applications is planned in the future. Integration plug-ins will drive BCAP towards being a cost effective central hub for data-driven applications - relevant for optimization of production and operations in the process industry.

The current BCAP portfolio can provide solutions in the areas of plant, maintenance and energy intelligence, asset monitoring, smart alerting, cognitive sound-based sensors, virtual sensors, asset health checks and recommender systems.
